at which my other ‘homes’ can stay?

As a first time buyer, I must navigate

the well-chartered territories of mortgage percentages

instead of map coordinates, I must commit

to a black roof and grey walls

with no sun-scorched view for which I’ll pay

the same as a roundtrip to NYC every month until I’m sixty-three,

to live on the ground floor instead of mid-air,

to pay parking fines instead of excess baggage,

to date instead of counting dates,

to hold someone’s hand instead of luggage,

to carry with me – maybe – a life,

to house another,

to be someone’s wings, roof, gate, one way street

and three-letter combo,

should they choose to stay. Should they choose to stay.
